About the Honors College

USF is located in the one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, one that provides numerous intellectual, cultural, recreational, and social resources. The Honors College provides an exciting experience and a productive learning environment that combines the advantages of a small, highly personalized college with the resources of a large research institution. Outside the classroom, our vibrant Tampa Bay community offers an array of internship and volunteer opportunities.

The Honors College at the University of South Florida is for motivated students, regardless of major. The program emphasizes the development of thinking, reasoning, analytic and writing skills, which you can apply to an individual research project or original creative work. The curriculum replaces a significant portion of the University's general education requirements, so participating in Honors will not generally increase your workload.

Benefits of participating in the Honors College include:

  • small classes that encourage interaction among students and USF’s top faculty
  • personal advising by faculty and staff who are committed to your success
  • priority registration to guarantee class availability
  • on-campus opportunities to work with faculty who are doing cutting-edge research
  • the chance to broaden your horizons through international study or participating in honors conferences across the country.

Honors College students receive an Honors distinction on transcripts and diplomas as well as special recognition at graduation. Your Honors experience will be an invaluable advantage as you pursue postgraduate work and face career choices and challenges. Graduate and professional schools and employers recognize students who have gone the extra mile.

One of our very recent graduates, a Business Management major, expressed our goals very well when he said: "The combination of class lecture, participation, and research provided a potent mix for an ideal learning environment and academic rigor that stimulates and fosters intellect, creativity, and innovation."
