Rick Temple, clinical psychologist, will talk about time management, something many of us could use; Les Muma, entrepreneur and philanthropist will share his secrets of success; the Florida Orchestra has invited us to be their guest at a concert; our other scheduled events are also on the website. Take a look and sign up for those which interest you and which seem beneficial .
Competitive Scholarships for 2009-2010 Academic Year
The application for the Honors College competitive scholarships is up on our website. the deadline to submit it online is February 27, 2009.
The Honors College Web site has seen some changes over the Winter Break. There is a new tab on the main menu for Advising information. Not sure what you need to graduate from the Honors College or how to fulfill your foreign language requirement? Click on the Advising tab to check it out! While you're there, be sure to click on Health Professions to visit the Health Professions Blog written by our very own Ms. Hill. There is a growing amount of good and timely information for those interested in a career in the health professions.
If so, please contact Dr. Yavneh, as an Honors student is looking for assistance.
Preconcert discussion with FL Orchestra Concertmaster
Attending the Florida Orchestra concert on the 25th? Concertmaster Jeff Multer will return to the Honors College on January 22nd at 5 to discuss the music the orchestra will be performing. Even if you can't attend the concert, this should be fun. Refreshments will be served. RSVP.
You can now earn credit for playing/singing in the Honors band even if you are not in the actual class. We will offer one credit for students who wish to be a part of the Rubber Band in the spring. It will meet on Mondays from 6-7 PM. Email Dr. Silverman and he will get you registered.
The USF Athletics Academic Enrichment Center offers comprehensive tutorial services to its 400+ student-athletes in a variety of courses. The Center is currently looking for natural science and math tutors with an academic standing of sophomore or better, who have the ability to effectively communicate course materials to a broad range of students. If you are interested in one of these paid tutoring positions (starting at $8/hour), please email your academic resume to Ms. Lanier at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Would you like to pick the next Summer Book for the Honors College? The deans are looking for a small group of students to read and discuss potential books during the first half of the semester.

Computer Science Professor Dr. Dewey Rundus is our new associate director of Undergraduate Research. He also has a Ph.D. in psychology and a lot of experience working with undergraduates, including teaching in the Honors College. His office is across from Dr. Kleines.
Ms. Lauren Schumacher is our new academic specialist. She grew up in Clearwater and holds a MPH from a university slightly to the north. You will find her in the main Undergraduate Research Office.

Hurricane Studies Deadline: February 1
The Hurricane REU program at the University of South Florida provides a stimulating and interactive 9-week summer research experience for undergraduates. This interdisciplinary program fully engages students in collaborative exploration at a Research I institution with distinguished faculty mentors drawn from disciplines such as Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Geography, Public Health, Humanities, and Social Work.

A message about Girl Scout Cookies from Dr. Yavneh's daughter, Lily:
I am a member of Junior Troop 495 and I will be selling cookies until January 30th. This year we have all your favorites plus the new dulce de leche. Cookies are $3.50 a box. I will be in the Honors College Lounge and my mom's office on Friday afternoon, or you can just order from her (email@example.com). If you are on a diet, you can buy a box and donate it to the military services.
We will use some of the money for our camping trip, and give the rest to help children with cancer and the homeless.
