The Honors College Web site has seen some changes over the Winter Break. There is a new tab on the main menu for Advising information. Not sure what you need to graduate from the Honors College or how to fulfill your foreign language requirement? Click on the Advising tab to check it out! While you're there, be sure to click on Health Professions to visit the Health Professions Blog written by our very own Ms. Hill. There is a growing amount of good and timely information for those interested in a career in the health professions.
Pre-Concert discussion with FL Orchestra Concertmaster
Attending the Florida Orchestra concert on the 25th? Concertmaster Jeff Multer will return to the Honors College on January 22nd at 5 to discuss the music the orchestra will be performing. Even if you can't attend the concert, this should be fun. Refreshments will be served. RSVP.
The program is designed to provide students who are interested in public service with the opportunity to gain experience and exposure by working in key areas of government. Gubernatorial Fellows are assigned to the Executive Office of the Governor or the Governor's agencies, based on their major or area of concentration. Fellows will be expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week and will be paid for their time on the job. Fellows must also meet weekly as a group to participate in a lecture series as well as additional government activities such as press conferences, budget briefings and policy briefings. Fellows will also be given the opportunity to participate in policy study trips throughout Florida and in Washington, D.C.
The strategic plan of the University of South Florida seeks to expand world-class interdisciplinary research, creative and scholarly endeavors and to expand local and global engagement initiatives. The University Scholars program recognizes students who fulfill the University goals of community engagement, undergraduate research, and global citizenship on both transcript and diploma. The Hurricane REU program at the University of South Florida provides a stimulating and interactive 9-week summer research experience for undergraduates. This interdisciplinary program fully engages students in collaborative exploration at a Research I institution with distinguished faculty mentors drawn from disciplines such as Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Geography, Public Health, Humanities, and Social Work.

USF Health and Fundacion Familia Sana will be hosting a Mardi Gras Masquerade on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 7pm until 11pm in the USF Marshall Center Ballroom. Tickets are $10, and all proceeds will be donated to an Honors thesis water purification project in the Dominican Republic. At the event, there will be a DJ, a raffle, a keynote speaker, door prizes, and performances from some campus organizations. One grand prize will be given to the person with the most creative mask. Food and drinks will be donated by local businesses such as Tijuana Flats, Starbucks, Cilantro, McAllister's, Publix, Target, MOSI, and many more. Leadership Opportunity for First Year Students
Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society for first year students, is looking for motivated students who are willing to assist in the rechartering process. Students with a 3.5 GPA or higher, in the top 20% of their class and taking a normal course load (at least 12 hours) who are interested in making a significant impact in the first year experience of fellow students at USF are invited to apply.
Potential applicants should be first year students willing to devote several hours per week to assist in the rechartering process and willing to take an active role in the establishment of a new honor society. For more information on Phi Eta Sigma, please check www.phietasigma.org.

Looking for web design genius to instruct tech-challenged web owner
I'm looking for someone who has decent knowledge of web design formats to get into my website and figure out how the darn thing works. Once accomplished, I would then like that person to show me how to monitor and update same.
Controversy, USF's new undergraduate journal, is seeking a talented web designer to forge a creative web page. This is an excellent resume building opportunity.

Controversy: Call for Papers
Controversy, a journal for the discussion of social issues, is seeking submissions for its first edition. Social issues are most appropriately approached through a combination of truth, passion, knowledge, ethical consideration of the opposition and eloquent and concise use of language. Writers who successfully implement the standards and mission statement of Controversy will be granted publication.
