2011 Admits 7 Year Program Declaration
If you are a first year Honors student following the BS/MD 7 Year track, you must officially declare this track by Friday, April 13, 2012. To do so, simply go to the BS/MD webpage, Fall '11 Admit tab, and complete the BS/MD Interest Declaration Form. You must do this even if you indicated 7 Year interest on your initial application paperwork. Late submissions cannot be accepted. If you are planning to graduate this semester, please go to the Honors website/current students/graduation and "name your plan to graduate". After the University's application process is complete, we will send a request for additional information.
Research Opportunity with Various Skillsets Needed
Research Assistants will be on a volunteer basis initially with the opportunity to publish and work with numerous researchers in the College of Medicine. Stipends will be available over time. No course prerequisites needed, but students with graphic design, programming, software design, statistics, public health, and psychology background are ideal. New Whitaker International Undergraduate Program for Biomedical Engineering Students Deadline March 15
The application will be made available early January 2012 for the first round of grants which will be for Fall/Academic Year 2012-2013.
With support from the Former Whitaker Foundation, IIE will provide undergraduate biomedical engineers and bioengineers funding for a semester or one academic year to pursue, in an international setting, coursework in biomedical engineering.
To be eligible for the award, an applicant must be a US citizen or have permanent residency status, be enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior (with at least one semester remaining) and demonstrate a need for financial support to study abroad.

Freshman and Sophmore level students needed for research project
We are currently conducting a large national study analyzing the utilization, outcomes, and disparities associated with BRCA gene testing. This 2-year study is led by USF Professor Rebecca Sutphen, M.D. in collaboration with researchers from Georgetown University and the American Cancer Society.
We are seeking freshman and sophomore-level students interested in a career in medicine or health research who can devote at least 4 hours a week to the research. The position involves collecting, analyzing and organizing incoming data from our patient population, routine team meetings, and assisting coordinators with ongoing study surveillance.

Research Assistants Needed in College of Pharmacy Lab
The lab is interested in neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and the role of neuroinflammation. They utilize a variety of transgenic animal models and cell culture methods to identify novel therapies and mechanisms that reduce neurodegenerative pathology associated with the amyloid beta peptide, tau protein, and alpha synuclein in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, respectfully. Several ongoing projects include gene therapy, bone marrow derived cell therapy and trafficking into the CNS, and cytokine-mediated immune modulation.
The Gay, Lesbian, Transgender and Allied Premed Student Association will be hosting a discussion led by Dr. Steven Specter, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at the USF College of Medicine. Having served on the USF College Of Medicine admissions committee for several years, he will be able to provide invaluable insight about the process of med school admissions. This discussion will be held at our next general body meeting on Wednesday February 1st at 6pm in MSC 3712. We look forward to seeing you there!
