The Honors College will be moving to ADM 241. That will occur on May 9 and 10. This means that we will be out of touch on the 9th and a good part of the 10th. Computers and phones will not be operational immediately so please have patience. We will have significantly more space, including 5 classrooms. Of course, there will be a computer lab and a study lounge.
I would like to invite each of you to submit one or more works of art to be prominently displayed in our new quarters. Paintings, drawings, watercolors, mixed media, photos, sculptures and anything that is "displayable" will be considered and prizes will be awarded to all artwork selected for display. it would be great if you would enter the photo contest whcih is described below.

Paid Summer Positions
Up to 8 students will be hired at $10 for about 10 hours per week starting this summer.  All majors are welcome.  Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply.  This 1st cohort of Career Peers has an awesome opportunity to assist us while developing relationships with an extremely talented and experienced team of Career Counselors mentoring them.   The whole Career Development Team is excited the Career Peer Program.

New Policy for turning in Final Thesis
If you are completing your thesis this semester, you need to bring two copies to the library for binding. For the Honors College, we now prefer an electronic copy, NOT a hard copy. The Honors College copy should be emailed to me (email@example.com) we no longer want a hard copy. This will save you money and it will not require storage space for the college. Please note: you must still turn in a hard copy of the thesis approval form!
Women In Need Foundation - Officers Needed!
The Women In Need (WIN) Foundation is a student org that promotes domestic violence awareness and makes necessity bags for women in local shelters. WIN is currently seeking officers to help plan charitable events and assist with all of the Foundation's responsibilities. Much of the work done through WIN can be counted as volunteer work, so students looking for service hours or leadership opportunities can get both while supporting a great cause. The Honors College Photo Competition
To celebrate our students&rsquo abilities and achievements, the Honors College is sponsoring a photo competition.  Photographs submitted should capture an observation made or experience had while a student at the University of South Florida.  Awards will be given in the following categories:
-Best USF photo
-Grand Prize Photo
-Staff Favorite (as voted on by the staff of the Honors College)
-Student Favorite (as voted on via facebook  by students.  Photos will be posted on the Honors College Facebook Page on May 2nd and voting will end on May 15th.)
Winners will be announced on May 20.  The winning photographs will be permanently displayed throughout the Honors College offices, classrooms or hallways.  The college will print and frame the photographs and have sole rights to determine display location.  Small plaques listing the students name, year, and title of photograph will be included.  Additional prizes will be available.
Any Honors College student may submit up to 2 photos per category.  All photos must be original works of the student, and submit electronically in .jpeg format via email to Cayla Lanier (email@example.com) by 5:00pm on May 1, 2011.  Photos may not include any sort of watermark or signature.  Along with the photograph, please include the category, date and location where the picture was taken, and a brief title or description.
Panama: Beyond the Classroom applications online!
This Geographical Perspectives & Major Works/Major Issues course will include a voyage to the City of Knowledge in Panamá. Students will synthesize their classroom and international experiences in order to learn about the social, political, and economic situation in the developing world, focusing on a comparison between the U.S. and Panamanian health care systems. This course should appeal to students with a strong sense of adventure, a curiosity about our expanding global society and a desire to make a difference. Honors College students of all academic levels and from all majors are encouraged to apply for the course. Research Assistant Needed for COE Research Project
Dr. Tony Tan in the College of Education is looking for a student who was adopted from China or Korea or has adopted siblings or relatives from China.
The student will be helping to collect (survey and interview) data from adolescent girls who were adopted from China as infants. The student will have the opportunity to write conference proposals and papers, or use the data for his/her thesis.

The Career Center has initiated a new program: Career Peers. This paid program is designed to increase outreach to students early in their campus experience and increase student knowledge of Career Exploration and Job Search.
Undergraduate and graduate students in all majors are encouraged to apply.

Research Assistants Needed for Summer and Fall Project
A research group in the COE&rsquos  Instructional Technology Program is looking for a few sharp undergraduates to join their research group, which involves embedding computer games in hard copy books to improve reading comprehension, using pentop computer, microdot paper and audio feedback.

Two students are needed during the summer as research assistants for an Integrative Biology project. The project focuses on stress and house sparrows. There will be opportunities to participate in field work, laboratory work and quantification of behavior.

Research Opportunities in Public Health
A researcher in the College of Public Health has two projects available to Honors undergraduate students, preferably majoring in Biology. The first project involves the collection of marine invertebrates to identify and describe unique larval forms of fish blood flukes (parasites). The other project would be to collect ticks to search for vectors of several parasitic and bacterial pathogens.
