Honors College

Dean's Update:

    Dear Freshpeople,

Congratulations to the first 100 students who have already come through Orientation. I very much hope you have a wonderful summer.

Please remember to begin reading the Darwin book and posting to our Blackboard site (details for doing this are in the material you got with the book). I am interested to read what you have to say.

I hope you know that all of us in Honors will be here throughout the summer if you need advising help.

Poplar, the brand new Honors residence hall still has a few spots left. If you are interested, contact the housing office at (813) 974-0001 or Mr. Lucien at (813) 974-3087 or

The Office of Undergraduate Research

  • Open Mic Night

Come show off your skills on Wednesday, June 24 from 7 to 9 pm! The mic is open for songs, poems, spoken word and other creative performances by students and mentors.

There will be doughnuts, coffee and hot chocolate. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • Hurricane Research Project Opportunity

Would you like to work in a large interdisciplinary research team examining people's hurricane evacuation behavior? Dr. Jennifer Collins is looking for a Spanish speaker (writer also preferred) to join the team. Learn about the research process, learn about social aspects of hurricane evacuations and develop interview skills as we perform a pilot test on a research study. This is a good opportunity if you would like 1 credit of summer B directed research or even if you would just like to volunteer and have something else to put on your resume as you network and make new contacts with people largely in the field of Geography and Sociology. There is also an opportunity (not required) to join the team later in the summer/fall to participate in a grant funded project which will take the team out to interview during an evacuation. The pilot test that you will be involved in will take place locally. Please email Dr. Jennifer Collins ASAP if you are interested at
