Honors College

Dean's Update:

It is with a mixture of regret (for us) and pleasure (for her) that I announce the Dr. Linda Lucas has decided to retire from USF.  She will be retiring in August, but her last day in the office will be July 10th.

Her departure will leave a huge hole in the Honors community that will be impossible to fill.  As many readers of the newsletter know, her contributions to the College have been numerous, and even in my short time here I have come to appreciate how great a role she has played in the College's success.  Her leadership in developing the Office of National Scholarships from an idea into one of the most successful operations of its kind in the nation is her most conspicuous contribution to the prestige of both the College and USF generally, and for that good work everyone is deeply grateful to her.  Her tireless efforts in support of our students have made possible many success stories, and have changed the lives and fortunes of many of our graduates.  Her efforts have contributed greatly to changing the academic culture at USF and have given our students -- past, present, and future -- the conviction that they can compete at the very highest national and international level.  That is a great legacy.

This past year, in the role of Assistant Dean for Special Projects, she has expanded her leadership role to successfully manage the College's first national faculty search, organize the complex data gathering necessary to support USF's application for a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, and undertake a number of other important projects.  I am very grateful for her willingness to take on this new role in support of the College's mission.

I know that everyone reading this will join me in wishing her the very best in her retirement, and I hope that you will tell her so personally.  There will be an event to commemorate her service to the university, and to celebrate her retirement, sometime later this summer or early fall -- details to follow.

Are you seeking a paid medical assistant opportunity?

An alumna's dermatology practice, located in Plant City, is currently seeking to hire a medical and administrative assistant.  This position will include scribing for providers in the exam room, assisting with procedures, cleaning instruments, as well as reception desk duties.  It is a great opportunity to learn a little medicine, and the business side of the practice.

They would like a 1-year commitment, with 1 month overlap to help train his/her successor.  Employment could be 20-30 hours per week, depending on the needs of the student. Thursdays would be mandatory.

Send your resume/CV and a paragraph stating your interest in this opportunity to Mr. Mejias: mejias@honors.usf.edu
