This is a reminder to our incoming Freshpeople.
Please remember that you can win scholarships by submitting your essay based upon the summer reading book, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” and by volunteering to serve on the Convocation Day panel which will respond to our speaker (whose topic will be related to the book). If you volunteer for the panel, you will be given further instructions well in advance of Convocation.

USF offers two services that are of interest to students applying to programs in the health professions.
First, the Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) offers a committee letter service. Second, through Virtual Evaluation, the College of Arts & Sciences offers a Letter of Recommendation service for students. More information about these services is available through the following links.
For students applying to medical school, AMCAS has been open for a few weeks and students will be able to start submitting applications later in the week. Before you complete your application, we strongly recommend that you review all AMCAS information through the following link. PS2 : Program for Scholars in Public Service
At the University of South Florida we believe in the importance of service, and we believe in supporting students who wish to serve their communities. It is in that context that we offer the Program for Scholars in Public Service (PS2). The program is open to a select group of First-Year undergraduate students; second-year students may be considered if space is available.
PS2 works with students to foster service, global engagement and research by providing a framework for undergraduate students who want to strengthen and maintain their commitment to serving communities locally in Tampa Bay, nationally and globally. We believe that students with these skills and experiences are greatly advantaged when they apply to graduate and professional schools or when considered for the very best jobs.

Intezyne Technologies is looking for an undergraduate with prior research experience in organic or polymer synthesis (general Synthesis is also acceptable), or in analytical chemistry. Undergraduate research assistants needed for Dr. Marc Karver's Alliance Lab
Undergraduate research assistants needed for Dr. Marc Karver's Alliance Lab to assist with projects on the prevention and treatment of adolescent depression and suicidality. Research assistants must be meticulous, detail oriented, hard working, and dependable with good communication skills. Research assistants must have a GPA of 3.5 or above and have received an "A" in Research Methods. Non-Psychology students with strong records and motivated freshman with strong high school records are also welcome to apply. Research assistants must be able to make a two semester commitment working a minimum of five hours/ week. Directed study credit is also a possibility. Spanish speaking preferred but not required.

Needed: 3-4 Volunteer Experiment Research Assistants
I am a former Honors College graduate and currently a Doctoral Candidate and NSF Graduate Research Fellow in the Computer Science and Engineering Department. No experience is needed for the volunteer researchers. I can train the students on anything that they would need to do. The duties include assisting with conducting a comprehensive research study. They will assist with operating video equipment and processing the videos, psychophysiology equipment operation and measurements, data collection, data analysis, and possibly assist with monitoring and operating pre-programmed robots. This study is designed to evaluate participants' reactions to 2 search and rescue robots in a confined space simulated disaster setting. This will be a great experience to see the entire research process and I will be happy to mentor the students in the research process. Students contributing to the research analysis and efforts will be included in publications. I will work out a schedule for the students that will work with their current academic demands. I want this to be a positive experience for the students involved. I will also be willing to write letters of recommendation for students that perform well in this study. The most important qualities are dependability, honesty, integrity, and eagerness to learn and help.

Opportunity for USF Minority Students Involved in Honors Sponsored Biomedical/Behavioral Science Related Research
This year, the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) will be held in Orlando at Walt Disney World. Annually, ABRCMS is the largest, multidisciplinary professional conference for biomedical students attracting approximately 2,600 individuals. Students come from over 285 U.S. colleges and universities.. The conference is designed to encourage underrepresented minority students to pursue advanced training in the biomedical and behavioral sciences and provide faculty mentors and advisors with resources for facilitating students’ success. The conference’s website is located at www.abrcms.org More than 280 representatives from graduate programs (M.D., MD/Ph.D., and Ph.D.) at top tier US colleges and universities (http://www.abrcms.org/2007Exhibitors.html) as well as scientists from government agencies, foundations, and professional scientific societies join ABRCMS in the exhibitors program to share information about graduate school and summer internship opportunities. During the three-day conference, 1,000 students participate in poster and oral presentations in nine sub disciplines in the biomedical and behavioral sciences. All undergraduate student presentations are judged and those receiving the highest scores in each scientific discipline and in each educational level will be given an award during the final banquet.

Dance Marathon Leadership Opportunities! Have fun making miracles in the lives of children!
Get involved in Dance Marathon, the largest student run philanthropy across the country! The 13.1 hours of dancing, food, fun, and games at the annual Dance Marathon in March is a celebration of the funds students raise for Children's Miracle Network hospitals throughout the school year. 100% of the proceeds stay right hear in the Tampa Bay Area at All Children's Hospital. There are several ways you can get involved and save kids lives!!
Executive Board: They spend all year planning the event, getting students to sign up, and planning FUNdraising events. We are currently looking for committee members to help with sponsorship and a technology director who will help with filming promo videos and the website.
Morale: Do you love dancing? Are you enthusiastic? As part of the morale team you keep people excited at DM. You motivate people to dance all night long in many creative ways. If you like the spot light or simply dancing; then you've found the position for you.
Street Team: This position recruits dancers, informs students, and generates excitement about DM. If you like talking to people and spreading the word then you've found your niche.

The Friends of the Riverwalk, Inc.
(FOR) a 501 ( c ) 3 not for profit organization is responsible for the private sector capital formation for the design and construction of the $40M Tampa Riverwalk. FOR will design and implement the Business Plan that will identify future capital development requirements and revenue generation (events and attractions, mobile marketing, advertising, sponsorship and programming) opportunities for the Riverwalk venues. It is also responsible for developing the operating and management agreement for the ongoing Riverwalk maintenance.
1) The Riverwalk is a high profile project of highest interest to the Mayor of the City of Tampa. You will be involved in a project of regional economic significance.
2) Project objectives will provide interns with hands-on, market-based, decision modeling and business planning challenges.
