Honors College

Dean's Update:

    What a great Convocation and what a great class of new freshpeople! Thank you all for attending and for your thoughtful questions to Mr. Klein.

  • Honors Graduation Check

    The Honors College now offers an online graduation check feature so you can make sure you are on track to graduate with Honors College Designation.  All you need do is go to the Online Forms page on the Honors website and click "Request Graduation Check" at the bottom of the page.  Remember this is only for Honors College academic requirements.  Your Major requirements need to be checked with your College Advising office.

  • Volunteer Opportunity

    Volunteer with Student Coalition Against Homelessness and Poverty (SCAHP) at Metropolitan Ministries! 

     SCAHP will be heading to Metropolitan Ministries this Saturday, the 29th, from 12:30pm-3:30pm! Some of the places our group may be serving includes: Clothing Warehouse and Food Warehouse (sort clothing or food donations), Kitchen (food preparation, cleaning, and serving), and Thrift Store (assisting customers). Space is limited as we only have 5 out of 10 spots left! This will be our first time, but surely not the last time, we will be volunteering with them, so come join us!

  • Another Freshpeople 5 Event

    The Honors College invites its faculty, staff, and all interested students to a special dialogue in Applied Ethics:

    Judicial Merit Selection and Retention in Florida 

    We are privileged to have two special guests leading the discussion on this topic of great importance:  United States District Judge Susan C. Bucklew, and Florida Bar President Gwynne A. Young Esq.

    Join us for this important event on Monday, October 1 at 2 PM in Room CHE 103. Please RSVP on the Honors website!

    Susan C. Bucklew took the oath of office as a United States District Judge on December 8, 1993.  She presides in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida.  Prior to her appointment to the federal bench, she served eight years as a Florida state court judge.  She has been an honored judicial leader for thirty years.

    Gwynne A. Young is a shareholder at Carlton Fields Law Firm and a member of its Business Litigation and Trade Regulation Practice Group. She currently serves as President of The Florida Bar.  She is a past president of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Foundation, and the Cheatwood Inn of Court, and has been involved in Bar leadership since she first became a member of the Bar.

  • Student Employment Opportunity with the USF Foundation

    Part-time Development Specialist in the Honors College - 20 hours weekly

    This position provides professional administrative and clerical support for the develoment efforts and related activities within the Honors College at USF

    A devotion to detail, professional behavior, and excellent customer service is essential.

    Requirements include excellent written and oral communication as well as discernment when using and/or searching through databases containing highly confidential personal information.  Confidentiality is a must.

    Proficiency in standard office procedures and practices being highly proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook.

    Graphic arts skills desired for projects that may include creating a newsletter, invitations, event programs, and donor recognition projects.

    This position requires administrative experience in a professional setting.  College coursework may be substituted for the required experience as determined by the Director of Development.

    Salary commensurate with experience.

O.N.S. - Office of National Scholarships

  • TrumanUdall Scholarship Workshops Oct 1 and Oct 5

    This workshop will focus on scholarships such as the Truman (for students interested in policy in any field) and the Udall (for students interested in environmental or Native American Tribal Policy).

    They will be held on Monday, October 1 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm in ALN 253 and Friday, October 5 from 10am to 11am in ALN 253.

  • GoldwaterHollings Workshop October 3

    This workshop will discuss the Goldwater and Hollings scholarships. The Goldwater Scholarship covers undergraduate expenses up to $7,500 for 1-2 years for students planning research careers in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering. For sophomores and juniors, typically with a 3.9 GPA or higher. Requires USF nomination. The Hollings Scholarship provides funds for undergraduate study for up to two years, as well as a paid summer internship. For majors in oceanic and atmospheric study or in a related biological, computer, or natural science, or engineering. Requires USF nomination.

  • Higher Education in the UK Workshop with Dr Kuebler

    The Office of National Scholarships will be hosting Dr. Steven Kuebler from the University of Central Florida, a Marshall scholarship winner who studied in Oxford and now sits on the Marshall Scholarship Selection Committee for a workshop on Higher Education in the UK on Tuesday, September 25 at 1pm in ALN 296

    Dr. Kuebler will be discussing life in the UK and how studying in the UK can fit into a career plan.  Anyone who is interested in studying in the UK is invited to attend.

  • Department of State Internship Opportunities Workshop

  • HCSC Brain Bowl Tournament

    Do people call you a nerd? Does your Facebook profile say you are in a relationship with books? Do you spend hours on the computer researching random trivia? Then you are the perfect match for the HCSC Brain Bowl tournament! Back by popular demand, this year the tournament will feature new subjects, new snacks, and new prizes (including a scholarship from the Dean, gift certificates for Kaplan courses, and more)!

    Please email Rachel Butterfield at to make your team. Three to five people per team. Teams will have one hour to answer as many questions as possible.

USF Honors College Student Council

  • Dine and Discover with Danielle

    ~A taste of the world, in your own backyard!

    Do you like eating or trying new cultural food? Do you consider yourself a Glo-BULL citizen? Then you'll want to Dine and Discover with Danielle. We will go to various near by restaurants that serve authentic cuisine and explore cultures with different dishes. This experience will offer you the ability to gain awareness on the origin and preparation of the food that is served. We will also take a brief tour of the facility and share the food that is ordered, family style- like good old Thanksgiving dinner.

    Get ready to enjoy the international flavors that will have your taste buds jumping! Students will carpool with your peers and meet Ms. Locke at the selected locations.

  • PSGS Accepting Proposals for Student Green Energy Fund

    Submit Your Proposal!

    Deadline for fall proposals: October 5, 2012.

    The Student Green Energy Fund (SGEF) was established to help USF become an environmentally sustainable campus but we can't accomplish this without YOU!

    Submit your proposal for projects that will use renewable energy technologies or improve energy efficiencies that directly lower the university's energy costs. Current students and/or employees can submit a proposal and we encourage collaboration among departments.

    The SGEF is administered through the Patel School of Global Sustainability at USF.
