Honors College

Dean's Update:

    Honors College/School of Theatre and Dance One Act Play Writing Competition

    Channel your inner creative juices!

    The following are the simple rules of the competition:
    20 minute (optimal)  original one act play - maximum of 25 minutes
    Any topic (including controversial) is ok
    Individual, duo, three member teams may submit manuscripts

    There will be 2 divisions, one for Theater and English majors, one for all others

    January 8 - electronic and hard copy due; electronic copy to; hard copy to Honors office.
    February 4 - Announcement of top three plays selected for performance April 6 and 7.
    $200 first prize, $100 second and third prizes - places announced at performance

    Week of Feb 11 - authors meet with Theatre Director and Honors Dean.
    March 4 and 5 - Acting auditions. (This will be an open call to all USF students). Writers and judges will select cast. Writer may choose to act

    April 6 and 7 – Performances.
    Writer is encouraged to direct play (help will be available)
    If selected for performance, minimal staging will be available
    Props and costumes are author and actor responsibility

    Freshpeople 5 credit will be given to entrants.
    Authors agree to accept judges’ decisions as final

  • Free Honors College MCAT Prep Course

    The Honors College is now accepting applications for a *FREE* MCAT preparatory course to be offered during spring 2013.  The 15-week non-credit course, facilitated by third and fourth year USF College of Medicine students, includes test strategy as well as content preparation. Each week a different subject (biology, physics, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and verbal) will be covered.  All materials including study books and full length practice exams will be provided at no cost to students due to a generous donation from the Chowdhari family.

    This course will be offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-9:00pm (location to be determined). Attendance is required for every session. Interested students must demonstrate financial need, motivation for medical school and sufficient academic prerequisites for MCAT.  Financial need is strongly considered when applicants are selected. To apply, submit a detailed personal statement (recommended length at least one page) describing financial need and future goals to Ms. Amy Sturrock,  Please include UID#. Deadline is Friday, November 30, 2012.


  • Honors Graduation Check

    The Honors College now offers an online graduation check feature so you can make sure you are on track to graduate with Honors College Designation.  All you need do is go to the Online Forms page on the Honors website and click "Request Graduation Check" at the bottom of the page.  Remember this is only for Honors College academic requirements.  Your Major requirements need to be checked with your College Advising office.

  • Upcoming National Scholarship Workshops for Juniors

    Our office will be hosting three workshops for juniors to discuss scholarship opportunities available to you and how to prepare for future scholarships you can apply for as seniors. They are:

  • Video Contest for Latino Undergraduate Students

    The Adelante! US Education Leadership Fund is hosting a video contest. Students make a 2-3 minute video giving 5 reasons to visit one of the Latin American/Caribbean countries where United flies (click here to see Destino's Eligible Countries).   The winner will receive 6 roundtrip airlines tickets to a United destination of their choice in the continental U.S., Alaska, Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico. The winner will also attend this year's Annual Leadership Institute & Recruitment Expo in San Antonio, TX on Oct. 27-29 where they will be recognized at the Leadership Institute Gala by United and Adelante.

USF Honors College Student Council

  • Oct. 12- Dali Museum Field Experience

    Take a journey through the mind and life of the renown painter, Salvador Dali. Located in St. Petersburg, FL the Dali Museum hosts some of the most exquisite and surreal pieces of art.

    Dali once said, "Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings." Join Faculty in Residence, Sean Bingham while exploring the products of that very ambition Dali possessed.

    Admission to the museum is free for USF students and transportation will be provided by the LLC however, students are responsible for any meals along the trip. Students will meet outside of JPH for pick-up at 1 p.m. and we will plan to return to campus around 4 p.m.

    If you RSVP'd for this event, look for an e-mail from Dr. Bingham within the next few days.

  • Oct 10 Education Abroad Tapas Night

    Indulge in dishes representative of many of the nations available for study abroad while hearing about some of the many travel options offered through the Education Abroad office and the Honors College.

  • Join the Association of Fundraising Professionals

    Are you interested in potentially working in the non-profit industry? Would you like to obtain internships, be mentored, and/or network with hundreds of professionals in the non-profit industry?   • Are You a Fan of Harry Potter or Twilight

    For my honors thesis, I am currently recruiting fans of Harry Potter or Twilight to participate in a psychology research study (IRB Pro8196) analyzing how fans perform and respond on different tasks. The research study takes place in the Psychology Building (PCD) and takes approximately 40 minutes. Contact Samantha Groene at for more information.


  • Washington Semester

    USF is affiliated with the WASHINGTON SEMESTER PROGRAM of American University (AU) in Washington, D.C. Our students are eligible to study for one semester at one of the country's most prestigious private universities and take advantage of, among other privileges, the oldest internship program of its kind in the nation's capital. The program offers classes in the following specialties:

    American Politics, Global Economics and Business, Foreign Policy, International Law and Organizations, Justice and Law (Criminal Justice or Public Law), Peace and Conflict Resolution, Journalism and New Media, International Environment and Development, Transforming Communities, and The Middle East and World Affairs.

    Applications can be submitted at  November 1 is their priority deadline. Please see Dr. Kleine who will have to endorse your application and have much additional information, including advice on how to receive help paying for the experience.

  • Tutor Needed for Semi Conductor Devices EEE 4351C

    The Holcombe Scholars Program is looking for a tutor for Semi Conductor Devices (EEE 4351C).
