Introducing the Honors College One Act Play Writing Competition
The following are the simple rules of the competition:
20 minute (optimal) original one act play - maximum of 25 minutes
Any topic (including controversial) is ok
Individual, duo, three member teams may submit manuscripts
All writers must be Honors College students
January 15 - electronic and hard copy due; electronic copy to email@example.com; hard copy to Honors office
January 29 - Announcement of top three plays selected for performance in early April
$200 first prize, $100 second and third prizes - places announced at performance
Acting auditions - early Feb. (this will be an open call to all USF students). Writers and judges will select cast. Writer may choose to act
Writer is encouraged to direct play (help will be available)
If selected for performance, minimal staging will be available
Props and costumes are author and actor responsibility
Authors agree to accept judges decisions as final

MCAT Prep Course for Spring 2010
Based on the generosity of the Chowdhari family, the Honors College is excited to announce the offering of an MCAT preparatory course during the spring 2010 semester. The 15-week non-credit course, facilitated by third and fourth year USF College of Medicine students, will include test strategy as well as content preparation. Each week a different subject (biology, physics, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and verbal) will be covered through the use of ExamKrackers materials.
This course will be offered on Tuesday evenings in SVC 1091 from 6:00-9:00pm. Interested students must demonstrate financial need and should submit a personal statement describing financial need and future goals to Ms. Amy Sturrock (email@example.com) prior to December 11. ExamKrackers materials will be provided.
Spring 2010 Registration
If you are planning on taking an Honors course in Spring 2010 and have not already registered, please do so as soon as possible.
Due to low enrollment in a few classes, it is possible those sections may be closed, leaving you, perhaps, without a course you wanted but just had not gotten around to registering for yet.

Competitive Scholarships for Fall 2010
The Honors College Competitive Scholarship Application for 2010-2011 is now open. Students can apply for additional scholarships if they meet the following criteria:
3.5 USF GPA, completion of at least two Honors courses, a history of substantive community, University and/or Honors service since entering USF.
The deadline to apply is January 15, 2010.
Are you interested in community service and the medical field? A new Honors College club is forming to help the Villa la Paz Foundation in Lima, Peru. Villa la Paz is a non-profit center in Peru started by Dr. Anthony Lazzara that cares for sick and destitute children. Patients receive all medications, treatment, food, housing and education for free during their stay in the center.

Earn up to six summer school credits by taking the London Paris Study Abroad Program (May 7-16) between spring and summer semesters. Spend 10 days studying politics and culture in the two most magnificent cities in the world for not much more than taking those same credits on the USF campus. Honors College helps fund Honors students.
We have a very few seats left for Panama: Beyond the Classroom for spring 2010. This class will satisfy the requirement for either IDH 4200 Honors Geographical Perspective or IDH 4000 Major Works Major Issues. This course is designed to give students a hands-on, global experience to enhance their understanding of topics such as Panamanian culture and current issues facing developing countries, research opportunities, the principles of service-learning, as well as beginning dialogue about philosophies of personal and global leadership & service. This is a semester long course with an international travel component. Travel dates are March 6th - 13th, spring break 2010. Applications are available at the front desk of the Honors College SVC 1088. Application packets are due by November 30th, 2009 to be turned in to the front desk of the Honors College.
Trip costs approximately after scholarships; $650 -$700

The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000 per year) for full-time study during the 9-month academic year; a 10-week, full-time internship position ($650/week) during the summer at a NOAA facility; and, if reappointed, academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000) for full-time study during a second 9-month academic year.
The 8th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium and Celebration needs a new look, and you could be the designer! We are currently accepting submissions for a design that will be used on all posters, bookmarks, and postcards involved with the Symposium.

The Office of Undergraduate Research would like to invite you to an open discussion about undergraduate research and your experience as an undergraduate researcher.
If you are currently researching with a mentor, your feedback at this event will be greatly appreciated and used to help future undergraduate researchers.

8th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium and Celebration Submission Deadline Announced!
The Office of Undergraduate Research would like to announce the paper and abstract submission deadline for the 8th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium and Celebration on April 1, 2010.
Oral (paper) and poster (abstract) submissions will be due to the Office of Undergraduate Research on February 25, 2010 at 4pm. Submission guidelines and instructions will be posted soon on ur.usf.edu. Please mark your calendars for this event!
The Summer Cancer Research Fellowship program provides a unique opportunity for eligible current sophomore or junior undergraduate students to engage in innovative integrative biology approaches to cancer research through the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Integrative Cancer Biology Program (ICBP).
Online applications will be accepted beginning Monday, December 7 through Monday, January 25, 2010.
