I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your families a very happy and safe holiday season. This is a time of family gatherings, good food and football but it is also a time to reflect and to give thanks.
Please remember to take a few moments over the next several weeks to thank those in your life who have helped you to be as successful as you are. That might be a parent, sibling, grandparent, teacher, counselor or anyone else who has provided encouragement, motivation and empathy and who has instilled within you the desire to learn and standards of excellence. Those important people in your lives will feel wonderful and so will you!
I also hope that you will reflect on how lucky you are to have the opportunity to study at a fine university with a faculty and staff that care very much for you and your success. I want to urge you to take advantage of every opportunity you have to learn, to grow and to develop; you will only be a college student once and I do not want you to ever regret not having taken advantage of opportunities presented to you. Classes are but a part of your education; please take advantage of all the 'extras' you are offered: lectures, symposia, dances, picnics and the like. You will learn and enjoy.
Again, best wishes for a wonderful holiday season from Drs. Yavneh, Kleine and Lucas, Ms. Sturrock, Ms. Geiger, Ms. Lazzara, Mr. Mejias, Mr. Lucien, Ms. Hill, Ms. Lanier, Ms. Kane, Mr. Friday, Ms. Carlton, Ms. Field, Mr. Liu, Ms. Schumacher, Ms. Dorosz, Ms. Avramenko and yours truly.
Please email Dr. Silverman if you are a member of the Herd of Thunder.
