Honors College

Dean's Update:

    Your Honors College jazz ensemble, orchestra and vocal ensemble will perform in the School of Music concert hall at 7pm on Tuesday, November 27. I hope that you come out in force to support your friends and colleagues. Freshpeople 5 credit will be given.


  • Scholarships Available for China ClassTrip

    Interested in traveling to China with the help of scholarships? Dr. Bishop's Geo-Perspectives course (IDH 4200) is being offered during the spring semester and students living in the Honors LLC are eligible for additional scholarship funds to help cover the cost of the trip at the end of the course. The travel dates are May 7-23 and the total cost, including airfare, is going to be about $4,200. However, if you choose to complete the course and travel, the Honors College will award you $500, an additional $250 for taking the course, and the Honors LLC will add an extra scholarship. 


  • Tutor Needed for ACG 2071

    The Holcombe Scholars Program is looking for a tutor for Foundations of Managerial Accounting (ACG 2071) for the Spring 2013 Semester. Applicants MUST have an overall 3.3 GPA, taken the respective course at USF, and received an A in the course. Applications should be submitted by following the link provided.   • MCAT Registration for 2013 is Now Open

    Registration is already underway for MCAT test dates up through the end of May, 2013 (registration dates for tests in June and beyond are to be determined). More information may be found through the following link.

  • NSF and NASA Funded Programs for Students

    For undergraduates, please visit http://www.pathwaystoscience.org/Undergrads.asp and check out the paid Summer 2013 Undergrad Research Placements.  There are over 800 programs.

  • You really do want to go to China

    To students interested in Dr. Bishop's Geo-Perspectives course on China (IDH 4200) being offered in Spring, I'd like to inform you that interested students should utilize education abroad to sign up for my upcoming trip now (see link below). The final program cost is going to be about $4200, including airfare!!  You will receive $500 from Honors, $250 if you take the course, and possibly more if you live in the LLC and if you are a Pell Grant recipient.  Students who took Dr. Bishop's China course previously, may sign up for the trip without resitting the course.  This is a very inexpensive way to see China. Dates are May 7-23.

  • Honors Music schedule for spring semester

    Jazz ensemble - MUS 116 on Mondays at 6:20PM


    Orchestra - MUS 140 on Thursdays at 5PM


    Singers - MUS 211 on Wednesdays at 6:20PM


    This is for the students in the IDH 3100 Orchestra course (limited in SP13 to those who took this course is F12), and also for any Honors students who would like to be part of this by taking IDH 4930-002.


  • New International Honors Trip to London

    Due to high demand, the Honors College is offering an additional trip to London May 6-20 (no course, just travel). The focus will be on British Culture (music, health, history, etc) and will be led by Dr. Lucas and Ms. Schumacher Chambers of the Office of National Scholarships.


    More details (including cost) will be available soon. Please email Ms. Schumacher Chambers at lschumac@honors.usf.edu if you are interested in going. Honors scholarships will be available for the trip.

O.N.S. - Office of National Scholarships

  • Interested in Environmental Science or Policy Apply for a Hollings or Udall Scholarship

    Contact Dr. Linda Lucas at lucasl@usf.edu immediately if you are interested in applying for either of these this cycle.

    If you are interested in a career related to the mission of NOAA, (climate change, fisheries, water quality, oceanography, environmental education and other fields) the Hollings Scholarship is for you. Check out the NOAA website for more information:  http://www.oesd.noaa.gov/scholarships/hollings.html The USF deadline to apply is this week.

    The Udall Scholarship is designed for future leaders in environmental policy or science, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. It provides $5,000 for undergraduate education costs. There is also an option for Native American students interested in tribal policy. The USF deadline to apply is January 28, 2013.   • Gilman Scholarship USF Deadline January 14

    Students receiving a Pell Grant and stuying abroad summer or fall 2013 -apply for the Gilman Scholarship. The USF deadline to apply is January 14. Find more information about the scholarship here:http://www.iie.org/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program

  • TRIALS Scholarship USF Deadline January 7

    Students interested in going to Law School -apply for the TRIALS scholarship! The USF deadline to apply is January 7. TRIALS has a two step application process, so you can apply to the first step now. Apply through their website: http://trials.atfoundation.org/index

  • Fulbright UK Intent to Apply Deadline January 11

  • Boren Scholarship Intent to Apply Deadline December 3

    The intent to apply deadline for the Boren Scholarship (critical language study abroad, interest in national security and working for the government) is Monday, December 3. The USF deadline to apply is January 7 (the first day of fall classes).

  • Pickering and Rangel USF Deadline December 10

    The USF deadline to apply for the Pickering and Rangel undergraduate scholarships is December 10, 2012. These scholarships are designed for students who will pursue a career in the Foreign Service.

    Students for Scholarships is a brand new student organization on campus. We understand times are tough, so we created this club to spread the word about scholarships. Through this club, our goal will be to help you learn about different scholarships, go through the application process, and become a more competitive applicant. Leadership positions are available.

  • Want to learn Swahili Wolof or Zulu? Boren Scholarship African Languages Initiatives Deadline Jan 7

    Boren African Languages Initiative - Two USF students are currently studying Swahili in Tanzania!

  • Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship USF Deadline January 7

    Rangel International Affaris Program is now accepting applications for the 2013 Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship! The USF deadline to apply is January 7, 2013.

    The Fellowship welcomes applications from young people interested in careers of international service. For those who want to become Foreign Services Officers in the U.S. Department of State, The Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program provides benefits of up to $90,000 over two years toward a two-year master's degree, arranges internships on Capitol Hill and at U.S. embassies, and provides professional development and support activities.

    Information and application materials can be found at http://www.rangelprogram.org/. The application deadline is January 18, 2013. The Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and managed by Howard University.

  • End of Semester HLLC Survey

    All Pods that reach 100% participation in the anonymous online survey can expect a free pizza dinner from the Honors LLC in return for the five minutes of your time. The Pods who reach this goal will be announced at the Dec. 3 Relaxation event in JPH 1317.

    NOTE: To ensure accurate data, PLEASE DO NOT complete the online survey if you are not a resident of the LLC in Juniper Hall.

Student Submissions

  • Hindi Language Course for Fall 2013

    Are you interested in Bollywood movies? Are you curious about India and its culture? Do you want to learn an exotic foreign language? Or, do you just want to fulfill your foreign language requirement at USF? Well, if you answered yes to any of the above, a course in Hindi is right for you! If you are interested in learning the Hindi language and would like to be a student in a potential Hindi class offered next fall, contact either Prit Patel at pritpatel@mail.usf.edu  or Kavitha Arulmozhi at karulmozhi@mail.usf.edu . With enough interest and your help, we can establish a Hindi language course at USF!


  • Employment Opportunity Train Gluclose Meter to Nurses at Hospitals in Tampa

    Abbott Diabetes Care is looking for candidates to train their in-patient gluclose meter to nurses at hospitals in the Tampa area. Candidates need to feel comfortable in front of 15-20 people per class, train about 7-8 classes per day for the week with multiple weeks in January 2013. This could also lead to more travel to other parts of the country for the right situations and if the candidate is available.
