Brand New Honors Global Citizenship Program

Beginning this fall, The Honors College will be participating in USF's new Global Citizenship Program General Education (GCP). This is an innovative program designed for new first year (freshman) students who have an interest in global issues and who may consider careers related to international health issues, economic development, environmental and cultural sustainability, international law and human rights. Pre med, pre law, political science, business, public health, arts and humanities, international studies majors and others may be excited about having expertise in global issues.
Here's the 'scoop':
You'll take one globally oriented Honors College course per semester for your first two USF years and receive your regular Honors scholarship for each of those courses.
You'll study abroad in the summer following your second year and we'll give you $2000 for that purpose! Then, you'll take one globally oriented Honors course in the fall of your third year to tie it all together.
Upon graduation, your transcript will reflect that you received a Certificate in Global Citizenship. Graduate and professional schools will be impressed as will prospective employers.
Participation in GCP should not affect course load or time to graduation. The Honors courses you’ll take in the GC program will meet University General Education requirements; one or two may serve as electives towards graduation.
Please think about this program; it will be fun, interesting and could well provide you with a "competitive edge". Let me know if you think this might be for you. you are not making a commitment but we can talk further if you wish.
Worried about thesis? Try this.

From Dean Silverman:

If you are starting your thesis next fall (2012) and have no idea of a topic and/or potential mentor, I want to help. We are going to develop a one credit pre-thesis course to prepare students for their thesis experience and we need a small group to work with us to develop the course. We will need you for about 1 hour per week as well as for some time on Blackboard. You will be registered for one credit of ‘Honors Research” and will receive a scholarship for participating. Those selected will not be ‘guinea pigs’; you will be a part of a design team and it is my hope that at semester’s end, we will have designed a great course and you will have an approved thesis prospectus.
Contact me at Silverman@honors.usf.edu or (813) 974-3087 if you are interested.
If you are completing your thesis this semester, you need to bring two copies to the library for binding. For the Honors College, we now prefer an electronic copy, NOT a hard copy. The Honors College copy should be emailed to me (silverman@honors.usf.edu); we no longer want a hard copy. This will save you money and it will not require storage space for the college. Please note: you must still turn in a hard copy of the thesis approval form!

Provosts Scholars Program

Beginning Fall 2011 we will launch the Provost's Scholars Program (PSP). This is a program in which qualified students who enter USF directly from high school with 18 or more credits will be offered the opportunity to complete their undergraduate education in 3 years. Each selected student will be provided preferred registration privileges so that critical courses are not closed when they register. They will be given summer scholarships if they need to take summer classes and will be given scholarships to help them participate in study abroad programs. PSP students will live in the Honors College Living/Learning Community year 1. Students will be offered the assistance of faculty or off campus mentors, depending upon career goals and will be encouraged to use the fourth year for graduate study here at USF. Participants will not need to take larger academic loads and can take advantage of all the USF has to offer.
Provosts Scholars Program
