The Honors College awarded over $680,000 in scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year. We would like to recognize the following students who were chosen as recipients of our named scholarships.

The Honors College awards competitive scholarships to new and continuing students. Students may apply for these and other USF scholarships through the STARS system, located on the USFAS Scholarship web page. Applications typically open in December and are due by January 31 for new students and April 11 for continuing students.

The University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine Alumni Society is proud to announce Eric A. Elster, M.D. 95 as the 2015 Distinguished Physician Alumnus Award recipient. Michael Calzadilla '15 is USF's First Gates Cambridge Scholar

Mr. Michael S. Calzadilla of the University of South Florida has been named a Gates Cambridge Scholar for 2015. He is the first USF recipient of this scholarship and one of 40 selected from the US. This global scholarship, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, provides funding for graduate work at Cambridge University for intellectually outstanding students who have a capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others. Applicants must be accepted into Cambridge University first, before being considered for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. At Cambridge Michael will study for an MPhil in Astronomy with Drs. A. Fabian and V. Belokurov. He intends to earn a PhD in Astrophysics and become a professor of physics destined for a career of research, instruction, and outreach. He will specifically study the co-evolution of active galactic nuclei (AGN) and their host galaxies at various wavelengths.
